New Mexico Bighorn SheepNew Mexico has a rather small population of sheep. Rocky Mountain Bighorn and Desert Bighorn sheep are once-in-a-lifetime hunts. That is, a hunter may possess a license only once over thier lifetime. The heards are separated by a large distance. Rocky Mountain Bighorn can be found in north-central mountains while Desert Bighorn can be found in southeastern mountains. Barbary sheep are open statewide but are generally found in the southern half of the state.
